Tractor Linkage Fitment Guide — 3 Point Hitch Compatibility
“Will this top link fit my Kubota?” is the most common question we receive from US buyers. The honest answer: it depends on your tractor’s hitch category — and the good news is that 3 point hitches are standardized across brands.
Because all major tractor manufacturers build their 3 point hitches to the ASAE S217 / ISO 730 standard, a Category 2 top link pin fits a Category 2 hitch whether the tractor is a John Deere, Kubota, or New Holland. The category, not the brand, determines compatibility.

Which Category Do Major Brands Use?
The table below shows the typical hitch categories for common tractor families. These are general ranges — individual models within a family can differ, so always verify your specific model.

How to Confirm Fitment in 4 Steps
Step 1: Identify Your Hitch Category
Check your tractor’s operator manual first — it will state the hitch category. If you do not have the manual:
- Measure the top link pin diameter (the pin that fits through the top of the implement mast): 3/4 in (19 mm) = Cat 1, 1 in (25 mm) = Cat 2, 1-1/4 in (32 mm) = Cat 3
- Measure the lift arm pin diameter: 7/8 in (22 mm) = Cat 1, 1-1/8 in (29 mm) = Cat 2, 1-7/16 in (37 mm) = Cat 3
- Measure the lower link spacing (center-to-center between the two lower attachment points): 28 in (710 mm) = Cat 1, 34 in (860 mm) = Cat 2, 40 in (1,000 mm) = Cat 3
Step 2: Measure the Part You Are Replacing
For top links: measure the ball bore diameter (the pin hole) and the working length (center-to-center between the two ball bores at mid-adjustment). For pins: measure diameter and length (from under the head to the retaining-hole center). For balls: measure bore and outer diameter.
Step 3: Check the Thread Type
Top links and ball ends come in UNC (Unified Coarse, threads per inch — most common on North American tractors) and metric (e.g., M22, M24, M27, M30 — common on imported and European-designed models). Use a thread gauge or compare against a known threaded part. A UNC ball end will not thread onto a metric top link tube, and vice versa.
Step 4: Verify Against the Manufacturer’s Manual

Fitment Rules of Thumb
- Category matches are interchangeable across brands. A Cat 2 top link pin from Jrs Farm Parts fits a Cat 2 hitch on any brand that uses Cat 2 dimensions
- Category 1 pins will fit Category 2 ball bores loosely — do not rely on this. Sloppy fits wear fast and are a safety hazard
- Bushing reducers exist (e.g., Cat 2-to-Cat 1) for some applications, but using them changes load ratings — not recommended for heavy implements
- The leveling assembly side matters: right-side adjustable leveling assemblies are not interchangeable with the fixed left-side lift arm
- Limited Category 1 is a real difference: sub-compact tractors (e.g., John Deere 1 Series, Kubota BX) use limited Cat 1 hitches — lower, narrower, and with less lift. Confirm your model before ordering implements or linkage
