The PTO pin — also known as a PTO yoke pin, driveline shear pin, or quick-release pin — is the fastener that secures the power take-off shaft to the splined output shafts of the tractor and the input shaft of the implement. Despite its small size, this pin is a safety-critical component: if it fails or disengages during operation, the PTO shaft can separate from the tractor or implement while spinning at 540 or 1,000 RPM, creating an extremely dangerous situation for the operator and anyone nearby. Even a partial disengagement can damage splines on both the PTO shaft yoke and the tractor or implement shaft, leading to expensive repairs that far exceed the cost of a quality pin.
